From June 14 to 15, 2018, the 6th QATEM workshop was held locally and organized by Sylvain PETIT, professor and researcher specialized in econometrics at the University of French Polynesia.
QATEM (Quantitative Approaches in Tourism Economics and Management) was created in 2007 by Nicolas Peypoch and Bernardin Solonandrasana of the University of Perpignan Via Dominitia. Previous editions have been held in Perpignan (2008 and 2010), Corte (2012), Narita in Japan (2014) and Potchefstroom in South Africa (2016).
This workshop is based on a call for papers and a scientific committee. It allows speakers to present a scientific article in the process of being prepared on the development or use of quantitative methods in the tourism economy and management. Each speaker has a 40-minute slot (including questions). The workshop model allows to work on the technicality of the methods presented.
QATEM opened up to the "general public" with the organization of a conference prior to the workshop[1]. This conference was focused on presentations of methods developed by academics, specialists in tourism economy/management and it made it possible to study the potential suitability of these methods in French Polynesia thanks to the expertise of local professionals and actors.
The "general public" speakers are members of ISPF, Tahiti Tourism, tourism services, as well as professionals (travel agencies, hotels, etc.). The results of these round tables will make it possible to develop future research projects in tourism economics and management, focusing on French Polynesia.
